i’m mourning the loss of my career. off-ramping was relatively easy, pleasurable even, especially since my career in retail was feeling hellish. the nights, the weekends, filling in when someone else was out sick, oy! but now, the prospect of on-ramping, shifting careers in my almost 40s, is terrifying. i’m looking for the holy grail of jobs: 3-4 days a week, in at 9 and out by 5 every day, no checking email after the kids go to bed, colleagues i can tolerate, or better, enjoy spending time with, and a 30-minute or shorter commute. and i want my company to positively impact the community in some way.
i once heard someone say that nothing happens in the world until someone sells something. sad, but true.
